HOW THEY'LL TRY TO BEAT HIM

If, as seems increasingly likely, Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee, won't the press just do to him what's usually done to Democratic presidential nominees (especially if he's running against Saint McCain)?

Yeah, probably. But how exactly? After they get over their initial wave of Obamamania and remember he's a dirty Democrat, how are the journalists going to try to bring him down?

Well, here's a New York Times blog post. It quotes Obama at a campaign appearance today. And although Obama said nothing at all that was Clintonesque, here's the headline:

Obama's Thinking About Tomorrow

That's one trick they'll pull: They're going to try to say, He's Bill Clinton all over again. Ewwww, Slick Willie Version 2.0. A young, smooth-talking guy with sex appeal. We can't have that, can we?

I realize people like Bill Clinton, but it seems to me that they heard they hated Bill and Hillary so much in the past year that it was part of the reason Hillary lost her lead and now probably won't get the nomination. Can journalists (with GOP talking-point help) turn a non-Clinton into (their stereotype of) a Clinton?

We'll see.
