Frist plans June vote on gay marriage

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Monday he plans a vote in early June on a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, a move likely to fail but sure to spark a fiery election-year debate....

I just want to remind you that back in March 2005 Frist offered to let the Family Research Council schedule this vote for him:

Frist ... promised to coordinate with the FRC to ensure that a Senate vote on the Federal Marriage Amendment is scheduled to achieve maximum influence at the polls.

"We will, once again, bring an amendment to the floor when the time is right," Frist said. "I and others will be discussing with you when the appropriate time is...."

I guess he's made good on that promise.
